About Nanoose Bay Camp: Nanoose Bay Camp is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to providing summer camp programs for individuals of all ages as well as retreats and private functions. Job Summary: Nanoose Bay Camp is seeking a dedicated and skilled Caretaker/Maintenance Worker to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the overall maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the camp facilities and grounds. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in creating a positive experience for campers, visitors, and staff by maintaining a well-functioning and inviting environment. Responsibilities: 1. Facility Maintenance: - Perform routine maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs. - Perform inspection of buildings used by rental groups &/or cabin rentals, touch up cleaning and restocking where necessary. -Perform closing procedures which may include end-of-season cleaning of buildings for the ending rental season. - Perform opening procedures which may include the start of season cleaning of buildings for the current rental season. - Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify and address any maintenance or safety issues. - Coordinate and oversee repairs and maintenance projects, ensuring they are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner. - Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment maintenance schedules. 2. Groundskeeping: - Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the campgrounds, including lawns, gardens, trails, and recreational areas. - Ensure proper waste management and recycling practices are followed throughout the camp. 3. Safety and Security: - Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures. - Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, fire codes, and other relevant standards. - Monitor and maintain security systems, including alarms and surveillance cameras. - Respond promptly to emergency situations and take appropriate action to mitigate risks. Report emergency situations to the appropriate Board Member. 4. Equipment and Supplies: - Maintain a record of tools, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are properly stored and organized. - Order cleaning & paper supplies from Planet Clean as required. Store in appropriate locations. - Coordinate the procurement of necessary materials and supplies for maintenance and repairs. - Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery to ensure their proper functioning. 5. Communication: - Communicate effectively with the NBC Board, NBC Camp Directors, Rental Groups, visitors, and staff to address any maintenance-related concerns or requests. - Provide guidance and support to volunteers or seasonal workers assisting with maintenance tasks. Qualifications: - Proven experience in facility maintenance, preferably in a camp or similar environment. - Strong knowledge of general maintenance practices, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and groundskeeping - Familiarity with health and safety regulations and existing NBC procedures. - Ability to operate and maintain various tools and equipment. - Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to work with the NBC Board - Strong organizational and time management abilities. - Effective communication and interpersonal skills. - Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions. Working Conditions: - This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions. - Some weekend and evening work may be required, particularly during peak camp seasons or for emergency situations. - The successful candidate must be able to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks.
